Description
Under direct or general supervision regularly and customarily performs work on radio communication equipment and other electronic devices. This includes such work as the following illustrative duties, together with other related and incidental work:
1. Installs and places in proper operating condition, tests, adjusts, maintains and repairs all radio communication equipment.
2. Installs and places in proper operating condition, tests, adjusts, maintains and repairs supervisory power line carrier, microwave and electronic control equipment, (RTU, Network Transport systems, fiber optic Sonet, MPLS and other network and SCADA systems).
3. May assist Supervisor of Communications in making studies and calculations relative to the operation of communication equipment and other electronic devices.
4. Prepares diagrams relative to electronic circuits and other special studies and tests as required.
5. Performs necessary clerical work incidental to the job.
6. Directs the work of and instructs others who, upon occasion, may be assigned to assist him.
7. Operates automotive equipment.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent, plus
additional technical training equivalent to at least 6 credit hours related to
communication equipment, including but not limited to the following:
communication equipment and related equipment; telecommunication systems and
networks with related equipment (or equivalent experience).
Experience demonstrating skill installing, testing,
adjusting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and/or repairing communication
equipment down to the component level (e.g., trunked radio, conventional radio,
transmitters, receivers, SCADA, System Control Center Instrumentation,
microwave and associated network, substation alarm monitoring, telephone and
full data circuits, power line carrier, transfer trip, peaking units, digital
fault recorders, multiple address system, fiber optics, channel
banks/multiplexers, Ethernet networking, SONET transport).
Experience demonstrating skill performing complex
testing, analysis and troubleshooting of equipment using analog and digital
test equipment.
Experience demonstrating skill interpreting complex
construction and manufacturers' drawings and manuals (for example, electrical/electronic
wiring and schematic diagrams).
Experience demonstrating skill performing
calculations relative to the operation of communication equipment and other
electronic devices.
Experience demonstrating skill performing basic math
(such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
Experience demonstrating skill operating automotive
equipment such as automobiles, vans, or light trucks.
Experience demonstrating skill performing
administrative/paperwork tasks and documenting details of field conditions,
maintenance, and repairs of equipment.
Experience demonstrating skill using PC-based
diagramming software and technical application software (for example, to
install, program, maintain, and/or troubleshoot equipment).
Ability and willingness to travel to various company
and off-site locations.
Ability and willingness to work non-standard and
extended hours, rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, holidays and during system
emergencies as required.
Ability and willingness to wear and use safety
equipment as required by Federal, State, Local and Company regulations.
Ability and willingness to perform both indoor and
outdoor tasks for extended periods of time (for example, lifting up to 50
pounds, bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, pulling/pushing, standing,
walking, and squatting).Required - FFC License for radio communications
